Best Pre-Wedding Shoot Locations in Indore

Most couples ask us the same thing: where should we shoot? The honest answer is that the place matters less than the light and the time you give it. Still, some locations around Indore photograph better than others, and a few have rules you should know before you arrive.

How to pick a location

Ask three questions. What mood do you want: royal, soft, adventurous or simple? How far are you willing to travel on shoot day? And what is the season? A waterfall looks great after the rains and dull in May. A heritage fort is lovely in winter mornings and punishing at noon in summer.

Places couples commonly shoot at

These are well-known spots in and around Indore. Distances are approximate and come from public travel listings, so check the route before you plan your day.

  • Lal Bagh Palace, Indore. A former Holkar palace with grand architecture and gardens. Good for a royal look. Check visiting hours and any photography rules before you book a slot.
  • Krishnapura Chhatris (cenotaphs). Carved Holkar memorials near the river. Old stone, arches and quiet corners suit black and white and warm evening portraits.
  • Patalpani Waterfall. Roughly 30 minutes from the city. Best in and just after monsoon. Wet stone is slippery, so wear shoes you can walk in and carry a change of clothes.
  • Lotus Valley. Around 25 km from Indore, a resort-style place with lawns and water. An easy half-day option.
  • Mandu. Jahaz Mahal and Rani Roopmati’s Pavilion give you the look of a fort-and-ruin film. It is a long day trip, so start early.
  • Maheshwar and Ahilya Fort. About 90 km away on the Narmada. Ghats, the fort and river light. Worth a full day, or a night’s stay.

One thing to know: photography is reportedly not allowed inside Rajwada, so do not plan a shoot there without checking on the day.

Timing matters more than the spot

We start most outdoor shoots early morning or in the last hour and a half before sunset. Midday sun creates hard shadows on faces and makes everyone squint. If your only free slot is noon, pick a shaded location or an indoor one.

What to prepare

  • Two or three outfit changes, not seven. You will not use them all.
  • A person to carry bags, water and the dupatta.
  • Comfortable shoes for walking between spots.
  • A rough idea of the three shots you care about most.

Permissions and permits

Monuments, forts and some resorts have their own entry fees or photography rules, and they can change. We confirm access before shoot day so you do not turn up and get turned away. Our pre-wedding shoot cost in Indore guide explains what is and is not included in a quote.
